Janeen grew up in Michigan and Minnesota, lived in North Carolina, Panama and Puerto Rico, and found her home in Paso Robles, California. She obtained her bachelor degree in psychology at Michigan State University (GO Green!), and then worked in the field of adoption and parent education in varying roles. In 2012, she decided to pursue her Master in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University.
During her internships and eventual licensing, at Martha's Place (a therapeutic program to support children 0-5 and their families through trauma) and then Seneca Family of Agencies (an agency that works with children and families formed through adoption), Janeen employed a humanistic, experiential, attachment based, and trauma informed approach to therapy. Over the past 8 years, she has gained extensive experience working with women, men, adolescents and children suffering from Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and attachment issues. As an individual and family therapist, Janeen, adjusted her approach based on the needs of the client and used a combination of techniques including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Play therapy, Experiential, Narrative, as well as Art therapies, along with incorporating Psychoeducation to help her clients find their true self and live from a place of authenticity.
Currently, Janeen specializes in therapy with adolescents, and adults who are experiencing difficult challenges or transitions in their lives and want to move forward and take control of their lives. Her passion is working with individuals and couples who are navigating the challenges of "family building" through the barriers of infertility, pregnancy losses or other life challenges. Her other passion is providing affirming therapy to LGBTQi folx who are needing support, allyship and/or advocacy. Within all of this, Janeen has the knowledge and understanding to support parents through childhood development; and the struggles of day to day stressors.
During this trying time, Janeen is also supporting our community through the stressors and challenges due to the COVID epidemic, as we all are trying to find sense and meaning of our new "norm."
